A police officer said that Bhavesh Gupta, the builder arrested by unit 1 of the crime branch on Tuesday was one of those named by Loharia in his dying declaration. Gupta has been arrested for criminal conspiracy and is the ninth person to be arrested in the case.

According to sources, Loharia was murdered on February 16 while he was entering his office.

Even though the two killers made sure that his death was instant, Loharia managed to give an oral dying declaration, in which he named Gupta, as well as Suresh Bijlani and Anurag Garg, all Navi Mumbai-based builders.

Niket Kaushik, additional commissioner of police (crime), confirmed that Loharia Gupta was among those named. The three persons had been absconding ever since. “We received a tip-off about Gupta’s whereabouts in Navi Mumbai, following which we laid a trap and arrested him. He was produced in the court and has been remanded in police custody till May 5,” Kaushik added.

Bijlani, who had moved the Supreme Court, is likely to be arrested soon, as the apex court rejected his petition on Tuesday.

The crime branch has issued a look out circular against the two absconding men. The police said it is only a matter of time before both Bijlani and Garg will be in their custody, which will help them find the motive behind the crime as well as and other minute details.
