NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -New Orleans Police are investigating a shooting that happened inside the Jung Hotel on Canal Street. At least three people were injured by gunfire.
It happened around 12:15 a.m. in the 1500 block of Canal.
The NOPD says six unknown male suspects allegedly forced their way into a room and fired multiple shots toward the victim, as well as a second victim who was not injured.
The suspects then fled while reportedly continuing to open fire in the hallway.
Police say the victims went to the hotel room attempting to steal from known drug dealer.
Detectives learned that two men, identified as 20-year-old Chris Ross (mug shot not available) of Slidell, LA and 25-year-old Tiquan Everson of Avondale, had arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds. Through investigation, detectives positively identified the subjects as two of the suspects being involved in the shootout.
Ross and Everson were arrested on one count each of attempted second degree murder.
In addition to the arrests, NOPD officers also confiscated three rifles and a yet-to-be determined amount of illegal narcotics in this investigation.
The Tulane University Police Dept. also sent out an alert to its affiliates Monday morning alerting them of the shooting.
Tulane Medical Center is near the Jung Hotel.
“At approximately 2:00am on Monday, December 28, 2020, TUPD was made aware of a shooting (aggravated battery) which occurred inside the Jung Hotel located at the intersection of Canal and LaSalle Streets.”
“This is an ongoing criminal investigation and affiliates should avoid the immediate area. Officers conducted additional checks of the area and assisted NOPD as requested. TUPD has increased reoccurring patrols in the area. This is an active investigation and no further information is available at this time, TUPD continues to assist NOPD as needed,” the alert said.
No arrests have been made.
