In its toughest test yet this season, the third-ranked University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team overcame a slow start to blitz past No. 5 Stanford 21-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-12 on Wednesday night in Honolulu.
Alaka’i Todd had a career-high 17 kills along with nine digs and three blocks, and Spyros Chakas had 15 kills, eight digs, five assists and two blocks to lead the Rainbow Warriors (9-1).
Tread Rosenthal had 39 assists as UH outhit the Cardinal .346 to .153, and libero Eleu Choy had 10 digs.
After dropping the first set, the Rainbow Warriors responded by taking control of Set 2 early to even up the match. UH used a late 9-3 run to take the third set before completely running away in the fourth, scoring the last eight points of the match behind the booming serve of Keoni Thiim.
Kevin Lamp and Moses Wagner each had nine kills to lead Stanford (7-2).
The teams play again Friday.
