Some saw Ha-seong Kim having a good year for a loaded San Diego lineup but we are not aware of anyone who projected him to be the third-best fantasy batter on the team over the course of the full season. Kim set a professional career-best with his 38 steals and also surfaced the power and run-scoring abilities the marketplace hoped for from him in 2022. He has increased his ability to accept walks in each of his three seasons with San Diego and his batting average has improved in kind. His batting average has room for improvement, and it must come from him improving his outputs against righties as he has been a below-average producer against righties (95 wRC+ last season) while excelling against southpaws (148 wRC+ last season.) The triple position eligibility is going to further push up his draft day price for fantasy managers whereas he was one of the more incredible fantasy bargains this time last year.Fantasy Stats

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Swipes 20th bag
Rotowire Jul 28, 2024
Kim went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, a run scored and an RBI in Sunday's loss to the Orioles. Kim did a little bit of everything in this one, reaching base three times and collecting his 20th stolen base of the season. The 28-year-old has played well since the All-Star break, but he has not homered since June 22 while notching just four thefts in that span. Kim is batting .232 with 10 home runs, 44 RBI, 55 runs scored and 20 stolen bases in 106 games played.

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Plates three runs Thursday
Rotowire Jul 25, 2024
Kim went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Thursday's 3-0 win over Washington. Kim cleared the bases with a first-inning double to give San Diego a 3-0 lead. That ended up being the final score, as the Padres' offense went dormant the rest of the way and Dylan Cease shut down the Nationals with his first career no-hitter. For Kim, the performance snapped a string of 11 straight contests without a run batted in. In fact, his three RBI were as many as he had collected over his previous 21 games combined.

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Picks up 19th steal
Rotowire Jul 21, 2024
Kim went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Guardians. Kim reached on a single in the second inning, and he went on to steal a base and score on a Kyle Higashioka double. Kim now has 19 steals this season, and his 57 swipes since the start of 2023 are tied with Nico Hoerner for the seventh most in MLB in that span. Kim has started all but three games at shortstop for the Padres this season. The 28-year-old is just 9-for-45 over his last 14 games but has solid counting stats for the season with 10 homers, 40 RBI and 51 runs scored over 100 games.

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Breaks slump Friday
Rotowire Jun 8, 2024
Kim went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and three total runs scored in Friday's 10-3 win over the Diamondbacks. Kim went 0-for-10 with two walks over the previous three games before breaking out Friday. The homer was his eighth of the year but just his second over the last 18 contests. The shortstop has a .223/.332/.393 slash line with 29 RBI, 34 runs scored and 13 stolen bases through 66 games. While his ratios are a bit adrift compared to his last two seasons, Kim continues to hold down a starting role and is delivering solid production in the counting stats.

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Two hits, three RBI in win
Rotowire Jun 1, 2024
Kim went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, three RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Royals. Kim led off the third inning with a triple before coming around to score on a Luis Arraez sacrifice fly. He'd then provide what proved to be the game-deciding hit in the fourth, driving in three runs with a base-clearing double to put the Padres ahead 5-3. Kim's now 4-for-10 with three extra-base hits in his last three games. After a slow start to the year, he's gotten his slash line up to .222/.332/.384 with seven homers, 31 runs scored, 27 RBI and 13 steals across 60 contests.

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Produces team's lone run Wednesday
Rotowire May 30, 2024
Kim went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a loss to Miami on Wednesday. Kim's third-inning solo shot was the only run San Diego managed against Braxton Garrett and four Marlins relievers. The long ball was Kim's seventh through 231 plate appearances this season, putting him on pace to surpass last year's career-best total of 17 homers. The shortstop has added 13 stolen bases but has otherwise struggled with a .214/.326/.367 slash line.

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Swipes two bags
Rotowire May 23, 2024
Kim went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two stolen bases in Thursday's 6-4 extra-inning win over the Reds. Kim seemingly has a green light to run right now -- he's logged five steals over his last five games, going 5-for-15 with five walks in that span. The shortstop is up to 13 thefts on 14 attempts this season, putting him roughly on pace to match his total of 38 steals in 2023. Kim has a .216/.335/.369 slash line with six home runs, 22 RBI, 25 runs scored, four doubles and two triples over 52 games, but his recent hitting suggests he may be turning things around. Kim still figures to hit in the bottom half of the order most of the time.

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Getting breather Wednesday
Rotowire May 22, 2024
Kim is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds. Though double-play partner Xander Bogaerts will be in store for a long-term absence after he was diagnosed Wednesday with a fractured shoulder, Kim's absence from the lineup appears to be little more than a maintenance day. Tyler Wade will cover shortstop in Kim's stead.

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Triple, stolen base in win
Rotowire Apr 11, 2024
Kim went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's win over Chicago. Kim came around to score San Diego's second run of the game on a fielder's choice play after reaching on an infield single and later stealing third. The shortstop then added a triple in the fourth before coming around to score a second time as the Padres jumped back out to a two-run lead. Kim is still batting just .182 in April following the two-hit performance, though he's now hit safely in three of his last four contests. It also marked his second triple in his last three games.

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Nabs second steal
Rotowire Mar 29, 2024
Kim went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base in Thursday's 6-4 win against the Giants. Kim has reached base four times -- three via walk -- through three games this season, and he's stolen a base on half of those occasions. He recorded a career-high 38 steals in 47 attempts last year and appears to have the green light to run frequently this season. Kim has yet to get his bat going with just one hit in 10 at-bats, but the thefts have helped highlight what he can provide for fantasy managers.

Kim "is still experiencing some abdominal discomfort," Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. One way or another, Kim will not start Monday for a second straight day.

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Scratched Sunday
Rotowire Sep 17, 2023
Kim was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Athletics for unspecified reasons. Kim was penciled in to start at second base and bat leadoff Sunday, per usual, but the Padres released an updated lineup that excludes him. Assuming the 27-year-old is dealing with an injury, the team should provide more information in the near future. Matthew Batten will shift to the keystone while Eguy Rosario starts at third base. Jurickson Profar is now batting atop the order.

The Padres are going for it. Over the past three days, they made that abundantly clear, trading nine of their prospects — including six of their top 12 — to fortify their big league roster. And why are they going for it? Because of nights like this one. https://t.co/6K1feRTtUp

Already seeing some benefit of the renewed bullpen depth. The Padres were able to use Adrian Morejon trailing by two in the seventh. That's not a spot he'd have pitched in when he was one of their three back-end guys. Morejon escapes trouble, Padres trail 5-3, B7.
